We noticed this funny old motorbiker while waiting for the green light. Firstly, his big white case drew my attention, then I noticed a very odd thing: grandpa carried a big bunch of cigarettes, you can see them in a basket and in a packet, but, I think, the big case full of them, too. For whom you carry it, grandpa? Isn’t it too much for you, probably, for grandkids?

Thais like to use various little, funny toys in everyday life. It can be funny key fobs with anime characters, Doraemon or Hello Kitty. Or toys and stickers on cellphones. Sometimes, funny dolls and teddy-bears under car (and even big, serious buses!) tails. All these silly things are cute and sweet (suay in Thai or kawaii in Japan), usually. But, look at this poor baby doll under a racing car. What the owner wanted to say us? “I hate your suay things! I’m out of mainstream!”? Or: “I killed a child in myself!”? Anyway, it looks weird.

What workers of a very small village have to do when they need to decorate roofs of souvenir shops for a national holiday? In some Western country, they would order a real skylift vehicle for one day. But it’s Thailand, people are very poor. That’s why, they need to be inventors and use some materials at hand to construct their own skylift. So, say hello to Village Monster 2052 – a cherry picker, built with an old radio mast and several bamboo stems, based on an usual tractor. It can even lift up/down, but because a basket hardly mounted to the mast, it can’t keep a horizontal position, and man had to balance on handrails. Also a worker should be careful when tractor moves (yep, he doesn’t get off during tractor’s rides), because the mast starts to vibrate and can brake, or a tractor can roll off even. Hard work, isn’t it? But it’s Thailand – they just don’t care

Elephant is the most popular animal in Thailand. It’s a symbol, friend and vehicle for Thais. During Thai holidays village people come to cities with elephants and drive them by streets blessing houses and earn some money. 2 days ago I noticed a funny thing: two elephant owners decided to follow official regulations for vehicles on a road and put red blinking tail light (same as everybody put on bicycles) and old CD (as a reflector) on elephant’s tail. I don’t support elephants exploitation, but it was a funny picture. Where is a number plate, guys???

Number plates in Thailand is a special subject. Yesterday, when I was moving off supermarket parking, I suddenly noticed a strange number of one old Jaguar. It was the number 2! Of course, it isn’t the true second number given in Chiang Mai. Actually, it’s the number กพ 2 (ko pho 2), what means it’s the 30th car with the number 2 . But it’s a noticeable fact, still: if you like retro vehicles — you can be lucky to own a car with a short and beautiful number. Possibly, with a number กก 1 (ko ko 1) – truly first number

Most of motorcycle stylings and tunings look very standard, because people just put some pictures or textures onto a bike body, change some small parts («Hey, dude, this is my new anodized fuel tank’s cap for $20, it’s nice, isn’t it?»). But motorcycles look too casual, still. Somebody does serious styling rarely. And if somebody does it, it looks not stupid rarely, too, because it’s hard to develop and save a style of design. Dale Konstanz from “Still Life in Moving Vehicles” sent me a photo of very customized bike, I recognized Vespa only after several minutes of viewing. I can’t classify if it’s stylish tuning or stupid tuning, but in both cases it’s something amazing. It made in classic Asian style “let’s mix everything”. It has an oldschool Asian style with dragons’ and fishes’ metallic pictures, but in the same time it has sci-fi note with caterpillars and like-rocket nose. Also it has fantasy big magic crystals (Swarovski crying) and cyberpunk lightings and transparent panels. Is something left from original classic Vespa style? No! OMG! They Killed Vespa! Bastards!

My friend Chris doesn’t like my blog. “You write about motorbikes, I like bicycles,” he said. Ok, I have to write something about bicycles! There are crazy-odd-weird bicycles in Thailand too. For example, look at this mutant, mixed penny-farthing bike from 1880s and chopper from the end 20 century. I met this bike and its rider on streets of Pattaya. When I noticed it I almost felt off from my scooter. Rider slowly rode on the side of road and pretended that nothing special is not the case.

Some Thais are completely uneducated. While the whole world fights against nazism ideology, Thais produce and sell t-shirts and stickers with nazi symbol (swastika). This week I found photos of Yamaha Fino styling called “Nazi Fino”. Of course, an owner completely doesn’t understand what he does. He doesn’t realize that nazists considered all Thais as people of second-class. If he knew he would never put those symbols and writings on his motorbike.
