Beware of motorcycle thiefs? Don’t want to put on your motorbike 15 ugly and awkward wheel locks? Can’t sleep for whole nights and spend your time at a window? Use a new way of parking – allow a tree to do it for you! Just forget your vehicle in jungle for 3-5 years and – voila! Nobody can stole it!

There is a city legend in Russia: if you put a CD under a windscreen, it will cheat a traffic police speed gun (stupid, I know). But, in Thailand police uses radar guns rarely, mostly far outside cities and never inside. So, why Thais put bunches of old CDs on motorcycles? And why they prefer to do it only with old motorcycles or motorcycles with sidecars? Because, it’s the best and the cheapest materials at hand, good to act as a motorcycle reflector! Highway codes ask to have reflectors for cases of main stoplights damage. BTW, most of Thais save money and don’t buy any lights for their custom vehicles, they suppose installing of 3-5 of old CDs is enough.

Don’t want to converse with friendly Thai policemans too often? Don’t want to pay fines? Want to have a green light everywhere? You need to know only 3 rules of Thai unofficial highway code. Rules applicable for foreigners only, because for Thai people 3 rules are too much to remember and follow – too much concentration needed!

1. Foreigner must wear helmet!

It can be a cheap plastic helmet you can break with a finger, it can be a little toy helmet which covers a top of your head only – it doesn’t matter. Just wear it! Because laws say you need to wear helmet, but don’t say anything about how hard or safe helmet should be.

Thais, as residents of Thailand, have a right to not have helmets at all ($1 is too much, better to spent it for a tasty fruit shake), or carry helmets on a side or a back of a motorcycle (“I bought a helmet, what else do you want from me?”)

2. Only 2 foreigners on a motorcycle!

Did you see Thais who carry 2 adult passengers + 2 children + 2 dogs? Wanted to try the same? No way! Foreigners are too fat for such tricks and have too much blood inside. In case of accident it will be too much blood on a street and Thais would need work hard to clean it.

3. Foreigners must have some document looking like a driving license

You can use expired driving license of your grandpa, whatever, they won’t read this strange foreign hieroglyphs. Even a photo doesn’t matter – all foreigners looks the same. Or you can buy some fake license of unknown country on Kao San road. Get something. No matter what, it must look like a document.

Thais usually drive motorcycles from the very birth (who want to walk afoot to neighboors?) That’s why they don’t need to have ID, a driving license and even a number plate on their motorbikes.

One of Thai geeks became bored to burn time staying in Bangkok traffic dumps and looking onto traffic lights. He installed Windows-powered PC to front of his Yamaha Fino. As you can see, he decided to use Thermaltake touchscreen (no room for keyboard/mouse). Also he has small audiosystem, a lot of usb slots and, voila, a hidden webcam, directed forward.

Hot news: Thailand makes step to the world motorcycle market with new generation of motorcycles. Group of Thai researchers has just finished test drive of motorcycles. «It will be bomb: it’s green, it saves fuel and money, it’s light and speedy, it suits for all ages», the head of researchers group said. «Our fashion design branch designed special clothing collection for fans of our motorbikes. It have their benefits also and we can call it new word in fashion» he said.

We illegaly got 2 photos of this experimental bikes and clothing collection and it’s worth every thousand of ฿ (baht – it’s local banana currency) we paid for photos:
